10k white gold filled watch with white stones at 12 and 6. Milgrain detail. Pointed motif detail. Expansion band stamped “GEMEX.” Face has “BULOVA” in black (faded), gold numbers and gold hands.
Hello! I’m new to the vintage Bulova community, and this is my first find! I found this watch for $35 at an antique store, and was surprised that it seems to run and keep time pretty well. I did some research before uploading in an attempt to find the style name, and I think it could be either Bernice or Juliana because of the diamonds and design around the diamonds. It’s amazing how many different ladies watch style Bulova made, with some being so similar it’s hard to tell the difference.
Based on case s/n starting with a "9" and movement stamped "48", I'm inclined to date this one as 1949. It is not at all uncommon to see previous year movements in watches. Below is an ad from 1948 that ID's your treasure as Bernice.
It appears that prior to 1948, this watch was named Juliana and was renamed Bernice.
